What is File Analyzer on iOS?

File Analyzer is an AI-powered Labs feature in the Affinity iOS app that analyzes PDF files attached to profiles and generates summaries of key content. Review pitch decks, CIMs, and investment documents directly from your iPhone or iPad, then save the summary as a note with one tap—all without switching to desktop. The workflow: Open file → Tap Analyze → Review summary → Save as note What it eliminates: Waiting until you’re at your computer to review documents. Analyze on-the-go during commutes, between meetings, or while traveling. Who it’s for: Investment professionals who need to review documents outside the office—VCs, PE investors, and deal teams working from mobile devices. Where to access: Files tab on any company, person, or opportunity profile in the Affinity iOS app (iPhone and iPad) Feature status: Active Labs experiment (launched April 2026)

How to Use File Analyzer

Analyzing a File for the First Time

  1. Open any company, person, or opportunity profile in the iOS app
  2. Navigate to the Files tab
  3. Find the PDF file you want to analyze
  4. Tap Analyze button on the file card
  5. Analysis begins (typically 10-60 seconds depending on document length)
  6. You can navigate away — analysis continues in background
  7. Return when complete to view the summary
The summary shows:
  • Key insights extracted from the document
  • Structured sections adapted to document type:
    • Pitch decks: Company overview, product, market, traction, team
    • Financial reports: Performance metrics, financial health
    • CIMs: Investment opportunity, terms, risks
  • AI organizes content intelligently—only relevant sections appear

Viewing a Previously Analyzed File

If a file was already analyzed (on iOS or web):
  1. Open the file in the Files tab
  2. Tap View Analysis button (replaces Analyze)
  3. Cached summary loads instantly (no wait, no re-analysis)
Cross-platform continuity: Files analyzed on web show View Analysis on iOS. Files analyzed on iOS show View Analysis on web. The summary is shared across both surfaces.

Saving the Summary as a Note

  1. After viewing the analysis, tap Save as Note button
  2. Summary is saved to the entity’s Notes tab
  3. Note appears immediately alongside other notes on the profile
  4. You can edit, share, or reference the note like any other note in Affinity
Use this for:
  • Creating a permanent record of document insights
  • Sharing analysis with teammates
  • Referencing during IC meetings or partner discussions
  • Building deal history timeline
Note: Saving creates a new note each time you tap Save as Note. If you analyze the same file twice and save both summaries, you’ll have two notes.

What Files Work Best?

Supported file type:
  • PDF files only
  • Up to 23 MB maximum
Document types that work well:
  • Pitch decks (primary use case)
  • CIMs (Confidential Information Memorandums)
  • Financial reports (quarterly/annual performance)
  • Strategic plans (company roadmaps, initiatives)
  • Research papers (market analysis, whitepapers)
  • Legal documents (term sheets, contracts)
Best results: Text-based PDFs work better than scanned images. If you have a scanned deck, use OCR (optical character recognition) to convert it to searchable text first for better AI analysis quality.

What’s Different from Web Version?

Available on iOS:
  • PDF analysis with AI-generated summary
  • Save summary as note with one tap
  • Background processing (can navigate away)
  • View previously analyzed files instantly
  • Same AI quality as web
NOT available on iOS (web-only):
  • Suggested Field Updates — extracting structured data to update CRM fields
  • Recent News search — additional research about the company
For field suggestions and news: Analyze the file on web instead. The summary will sync to iOS for viewing, but field update and news features require desktop. Why this matters: If you need comprehensive analysis with field updates, use web. If you just need a quick document summary on-the-go, iOS is perfect.

Enabling File Analyzer on iOS

Individual users:
  1. Open Affinity web app
  2. Go to Settings → Labs
  3. Enable Pitch Deck Analyzer toggle
  4. Feature is now active on iOS and web
Organization admins: If your admin has disabled it via Affinity AI Settings (web), it will be unavailable for all users in your org—on both web and iOS. Contact your admin if you can’t enable it in Labs Settings. No iOS-specific toggle: The same Labs and Admin AI Settings controls govern both web and iOS. Enabling on one surface enables on both.

Best Practices

Analyze complete documents: Full pitch decks and comprehensive reports yield richer summaries than excerpts or partial PDFs. Save important insights as notes: The analysis doesn’t persist unless you save it. Tap Save as Note for documents with insights you’ll reference later. Use iOS for quick reviews: File Analyzer on iOS is perfect for quick document triage—skim the AI summary to decide if the deck warrants deeper review. For comprehensive analysis with field extraction, use web. Provide feedback: Thumbs up/down in the analysis view helps improve the AI. Share which document types work well and which struggle. Combine with web for full workflow: Analyze on iOS to review while mobile → Save interesting companies to a watchlist → Return to desktop to run field suggestions and deeper analysis.
