How-to — task-oriented recipe.

Overview

Affinity now offers a simplified and consolidated set of text and highlight color options when drafting Notes or Note Templates. This updated palette ensures readability across both light and dark themes and eliminates confusing or unreadable combinations. All existing notes have been automatically updated to the new colors, so you may notice slight differences when reviewing older notes.

Prerequisites

  • Available on Web CRM, Extensions, and Mobile
  • Legacy clients using older Extension or Mobile versions will still see older colors (backwards compatibility maintained)

Steps

  1. Open or create a note
    • Click **Add Note **from the main homepage
  2. Navigate to a record in Affinity and click Add Note, or edit an existing note.
  3. You can also access note creation in Extensions or Mobile.
  4. Apply text or highlight colors
    • Select the text you want to format.
  5. Use the Text color or Highlight color options in the toolbar.
  6. Choose from the updated, consolidated palette of colors.
  7. Save your note
    • Once you’re done formatting, click Save.
  8. Your text will appear with the selected colors across light and dark themes.

Expected Outcome

  • Notes and Note Templates display consistent, readable text and highlights.
  • Colors will remain legible across light and dark themes, and across all supported platforms.
  • Previously created notes have been automatically converted to the new palette.

Tips & Warnings

💡 The new color palette solves several issues from the old system:
  • Removed duplicate or overly similar colors that slowed down formatting.
  • Prevented unreadable combinations (e.g., text matching background colors).
  • Made the palette theme-aware for consistency across light and dark modes.
  • Introduced a way to reset/unset colors if no formatting is desired. ⚠️ You may notice minor visual changes in older notes due to the automatic conversion.
